The story of almost lost keys…

May 1, 2010 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Blogging

I went to the bank on my break to cash my paycheck. Then, I walk out and realize that I left my keys inside the branch.

I walk back inside, no keys. I asked the tellers and looked all over… they had keys, but they weren’t mine.

I go to the parking lot, looked there no keys… and with my car, you can’t lock the car from the inside from the driver’s side… so I knew I had the keys with me inside the branch…

15 minutes pass… no keys.

I’m thinking, “How on earth am I going to get back to work? What am I going to do about my car?”

I go back into the branch and give the teller my # so if they do find my keys, they can give me a call… then this old lady with a walker says, “Can someone help me, my car keys won’t open my car?” Sure enough, the old lady thought my keys were hers (although our key rings and key sizes were COMPLETELY different).

I hope I’m not like that when I’m old.

King Nails Salon Spa

Aug 15, 2009 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Beauty & Fashion, Blogging

So, I’m getting my nails filled with a pedicure at this place, sitting in spa chair. The massage function works too well. It is pounding on my back… which feels great, but its making my boobs giggle. Highly inappropriate because I am wearing a tank top with my boobs hanging out. the men working here are staring, and the women are giggling. I’d youtube this, but I think I’m going to avoid causing more attention coming my way.

Besides the massage spa chair… this place is kinda cute. Matching decor – definitely not ghetto like some of the other nail salons in Long Beach…

This was my second visit to King Nails, and this time, as well as last, there was a crazy white woman complaining about her acrylics. This obviously leaves me very hesistant to get the fill… but I did. Anyhow, I got a pink-and-white fill with a solid color pedicure. The fill, I was not too thrilled with. I asked if they had pink glitter powder, and they said yes. I even showed them the set I had on and asked specifically if the powder was the same… it wasn’t. In a dyer need of a fill, I took what they had to offer. The guy who did my fill didn’t do a fantastic job either. It’s been 3 days, and I already see a sign of lifting. Brighter note, my nails are at the length that I like: SHORT. The pedicure was mediocre. The massage wasn’t that great… and they only offer spa pedicures… not worth the extra $ if you ask me.

Plus side:
1) Easy street parking (& the meter maids never come by – so no sense in feeding it)
2) Employees are friendly.
3) Walk-ins welcome, and it’s never busy.

Down side:
1) Employees understanding of English is very limited.
2) There’s always one crazy white woman complaining and causing a scene.
3) The work is okay. It’s not bad, but if I had a choice of going somewhere better, I would.

So who’s going with me?

Mar 19, 2009 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Blogging, Travel

Pet peeve of the day: I can’t update this blog at work. Stupid firewalls ::shakes fist::

Anyhow, I’m glad things are working out. I made the decision awhile ago to never be like my mother in the sense that she is extremely impatient, holds nasty grudges, is always angry at something, complains but never resolves, terrible with money… don’t get me wrong, I love her, but I never, ever want to be like her. It has been a slow transition, but I can honestly say I think I’ve mastered the art of being more than patient and just letting things roll. Voltaire said it best that to enjoy life, you have to take most everything lightly.

Things have been falling into place as they should be. Being so patient and just not worrying about anything seems to be really paying off. So many wonderful opportunities have presented themselves! I don’t even know where to start… I feel like I’m dreaming!

With this probate mess out of the way, I will be touring the Pacific Rim with very specific instructions of people and places I need to visit. It’s me +3 – so far I’ve gotten Iris to go. I <3 you!

Cerviche is so freaking grub!

Feb 2, 2009 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Blogging, DIY

So I’ve been on this Mexican food fix. I absolutely LOVE Mexican food, and I’m sorry, AmeriMex Tacobell and Del Taco just won’t make the cut.

My 2 favorite places to eat:

  1. Alertos – super greasy, and the carne asada dishes are freaking ono.
  2. Los Sanchez – The best Sonora style Mexican food EVER… not to mention over 100 items on the menu to choose from… and cheap imported beer!

Anyhow, I’ve been going to Los Sanchez just about everyday to get their Cerviche Crudo… one of the very few places that I know of that will make cerviche with raw shrimp cooking in lime juice. Why do I love this dish so much? It’s super low in calories, its filling and so refreshing! After eating it enough times this week, I finally figured out how to make it for myself with thanks to my friend Paul and my boyfriend James. (James’ Aunt Elena makes pretty awesome cerviche too).

Here’s what you will need:

  1. 1 or 2 tomatoes diced
  2. 1 large cucumber diced
  3. Half of a red onion (medium), chopped
  4. 1 bottle of Nellie & Joe’s Famous Lime Juice (16oz) – or if you can’t find this, you will need about 6-7 limes.
  5. Plenty of cilantro, chopped
  6. a Pound of Shrimp, deveined, peeled and chopped.
  7. Mrs. Renfro’s Habanero Salsa

So add all the diced and chopped ingredients in a large bowl, including the shrimp.. and yes, DON’T cook it. Then, pour lime juice to coat the contents of the bowl. (This is about a quarter bottle). Add more juice as needed, but don’t put too much, because it will be sour. Drain the liquid, only leaving a little bit in the bowl. Then, add the salsa to taste to make it spicy. Give it a good mix, plastic wrap the bowl and leave it in the fridge for an hour.

That should be enough cerviche for a 3-4 people.

Finit!

London Fog and the Glass Marble

Jan 10, 2009 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Blogging, Food & Dining

There aren’t too many things about Starbucks that I like.. personally, I think the coffee and teas are disgusting. The coffee is always burnt. The mixed concoctions are always too sweet with syrup stuck at the bottom… So tonight, I decided to visit the Starbucks on Southpark and Newhope: the only Starbucks in my part of Orange County that isn’t overcrowded or loud, to study. I tried this milk tea thing called London Fog and it wasn’t so bad! It was like a Chai latte with less of a spice kick and no aftertaste. I thought it was absolutely devine! Starbucks redeemed themselves!

Yesterday, Jon and I ventured out to Famima! for the first time. After hearing all of those really annoying advertisements on the radio commericials for this convenience store, I just had to check it out. [ Damn advertising execs got me to go! ] This place is located on the corner of Warner Avenue and Magnolia… I walk in, it’s well lit.. I’m trying to find all of these things that would make it stand out from a 7-11. There wasn’t much. Everything is pretty much the same, but they sell Japanese sodas, food and snacks… but NO ICEE MACHINE.

I was rather disappointed… and to make up for the trip, I bought a bottle of Ramune soda (there’s an accented e, but I don’t remember how to type that out). We drive home, and I take off the cap… realizing that there is a glass marble coming between myself and the soda. How on earth am I supposed to get to the soda? I look at the plastic cap that i took off, and it had instructions, and you have to pop the glass out with your hand using this thing it came with. I follow the instructions, and it was by far the most fun I had trying to get to a 6 ounces of soda.

Interesting things do happen at night!

Nov 10, 2008 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Blogging

So, I went to the gym after hanging out with James.

I walk into the locker room, getting dressed, and I hear a man’s voice! I totally thought maybe I walked into men’s room, but nope it was a tranny!

She was in full garb, bright fuschia dress with matching heels, poorly stuffed DD bra… it was nuts. Then I remembered her from Wells Fargo, and she used to asked us where to get cute shoes in bigger sizes, and I recommended Zappos.com.

Anyhow, she was talking to other women in the locker room about her reassignment surgery, and how she is so happy and blessed that she is truly a woman now.

Hooray for her!

Night!

Toronto Zombie Walk

Oct 26, 2008 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Art, Videos

I was catching up on my feeds on my Google reader, when I came across these amazing photos of Zombies from daily does of imagery. Sam Javanrouh, an Iranian-Canadian photographer, has some of the most amazing photos I’ve ever seen. I definitely encourage all of you to subscribe to his photoblog and purchase his prints.

Anyhow, why haven’t I ever heard of this before? Toronto Zombie Walk sounds like so much fun, but of course we don’t have anything like that in California that’s FREE. ::hmph:: I want to dress up and pretend to be a Zombie for a day, is that too much to ask? If any of you guys want to go next year, let’s start planning now! I’ll take a 2 week vaca, and I’m sure I have relatives up there that we can stay with. Let me know!

One step for girlie kind

Oct 6, 2008 Author: LC | Filed under: Adventures, Blogging, Money & Personal Finance

Yesterday (Sunday), I washed my own car for the very first time, EVER without any help. It was by far the most relaxing thing I’ve done all week. I must say, I feel very accomplished.

I’ve always paid for someone to wash my car at $30 bucks a pop.. until I realized how expensive and an unnecessary expense… then just a few months ago, I finally drove into one of those drive-thru gas station car washes… at $10 bucks a pop.. but no interior.. and my first time doing that was disastrous! Alot of the reason why I’ve never washed my car was because I’m super girly, and had no idea where to even start with the washing… and it was just easier to go to lunch and drop off my car while I ate at the restaurant, and have my car super clean when I was done with my meal… or I would convince my mom or one of my friends to get it washed for me.

Anyhow, I’m glad James introduced me to the world of quarter car washes… I got the interior and exterior done for $5 bucks. I admit, it was hard work considering I’m so short, but I did it, and I can’t believe my lazy ass didn’t do it before… considering at one point I was paying $30 every 2 weeks for 2 years… that’s $1560 dollars I’ve spent.. If I’ve only done it this way back then, I could have saved $1300 and probably wouldn’t have skimped on washing my car like I have been because I thought it was an unnecessary expense.

Anyways, just a random blurb since I can’t sleep. Go Me!
